Frizzy Hair – No More

I am sure most women and maybe even some men can related to the whole frizzy hair thing. Especially anyone who has curly hair! Add some moisture to the air and all bets are off with control being there!

My Bella’s newest thing is straight hair. I guess it isn’t that new but she was blessed with curly hair like I was. Funny thing is I never thought to buy a straightener in my life! I thought about using chemicals on my head to make it straight. Actually I don’t think I can say I just thought about it, I believe I tried it. But never crossed my mind to just buy a really simple product out there called a hair straightener. That is until about 2 years ago when one of my best friends cousins was at her house doing hair. I went over for a hair cut and she used one on me! WOW – I had to get one of those!

You know what happens when you get a new “toy” in the house? Well in my house my daughter wants it and wants it done right this second.

Still even with us now occasionally straightening our hair. Even with us using store bought products
to try and help keep it straight. That natural curly hair texture and frizziness just comes out.

So now we use a natural product main with 3 things:

1. Fractionated Coconut Oil
2. Distilled Water
3. Young Living Lavender Essential Oil

Occasionally I make it four things and add YL Cedarwood EO to it.

So we use this for when we have straight or our natural curly state. It is all natural. I do not have to worry about it putting toxic chemicals into myself or my family.

We may not be 100% toxic chemical free but each and every day we as a family are getting closer and closer to it. We are focused on our health as a family and that means a lot of things. We have stopped looking at size as a way to judge our health; have you stopped looking at that yet? It was the best thing we did as a family!

Soccer In The Sand – Grand Haven – 2016

What a weekend! We had sun, fun, family, friends, sand, soccer, water and exercise!

Bella was on a team this year, her first year. They made it to the finals and came in second place!

We got a great workout with just walking to and from the courts from the car (If you know Grand Haven beach, the courts went from the Pier all the way down to Bill Mar restaurant). I think we went back and forth a few times to get everything to our spot in the sand. Then the same amount for trips back to the car when we were done.

It was hot out. The sun was relentless. The kids played in the water in the sand. They made bonds with others on the team. For the team themselves they were exhausted and accomplished by the time the last game was over on Sunday.

The two prescription medications I take do not mix well with the sun, so I am not looking or feeling the greatest at this point.

So not only did the children have a great workout from all the walking as well they placed soccer in the sand!

Now I know some people run on the beach, walk on the beach and it is a great workout! Maybe picking running back up and doing it on the beach would be a great option. Soft sand, great workout, automatically cooled off by the waves, and peace and calming from God’s glorious world around me!

Play Like A Kid

Sometimes you just have to get down on the kiddos level and play with not. Not watch them. Not make them play something you want to do. Get down on their level and play with them!

Last year at this time we were a couple days away from heading down to Florida to go to Disney World. Truth is as much as I was looking forward to it, I was also dreading it. I didn’t have energy. I was always in pain. But I wanted to be with them. I wanted to play with them. I wanted to go on the rides with them!

So that is exactly what I did. I was in pain. I was playing with them. I was on their level. I was swimming with them. I walked with them. I smiled through it all.

It was a great time. It was fun and exciting and it will never be forgotten.

How awesome would it have been though if I had not be in pain?! If I had been able to play like a kid, on their level and still be smiling and it not being a fake or forced smile?!

Here I am this year playing with my kiddos and it is nothing like it was a year ago! Those are real smiles. Those are real laughs. There was no stunt doubled used in the filming of that! It was all me.

They loved that I was doing what they were doing. They continue to ask for us to go back and do it again. They loved that mommy was playing like a kid on the playground with them! I loved doing it for them.

Sometimes the best thing you can do for your kids, is to be a kid and to play with them. Get down on their level. Get down and play with them. Have fun with them. Do the things they love to do and do it with them.

You will never regret doing things with your children, for your children and for yourself. Talk about being the sunshine in your day! My children have always been my sunshine and now I am hoping God has blessed me so that I am their sunshine!

PS – not only is it great to do that to create memories with your children it is also great exercise for you! Get your workout in while you create memories – nothing is better and more priceless than that!

Juice Plus – 3 Months

Right before I started Juice Plus I had my annual physical. Most people know that along with that comes blood work. I wasn’t really looking forward to it because I was pretty certain some things were going to be high and some things low.

You see since I was pregnant with my baby girl, Bella, my A1C has been elevated (it slowly worked its way from 5.6 to 5.7 in 2015). For those who are wondering what that it: it is a three month assessment of your average blood glucose levels. Normal range is 4.1-5.6. So while 5.6 wasn’t high it was at the edge of being considered pre-diabetic.

Here are what my results were at that appointment:

Looking at those photos it really hit me how miserable I was. I hated photos of myself. I rarely took them and when I did, the only people who saw them were those who asked how my face was doing or how I was doing. I sat here tonight in shock at how sad I look in this photos, but photos don’t really lie. Especially when you have so many where you look as bad as this!

Then I debated on asking my Dr. if she would put off my lab’s for another month but decided since I was excited to see where things were that I would get them done. This is what the lab results were and also the changes I have noticed:

While it may not seem like huge changes to you I would like to point out my A1C has never gone down since it started to rise. It has been monitored between 3 months, 6 months and 12 months depending upon what it was doing. I would also like people to know that even though my doctor gave me high doses of Vitamin D to take for 8 weeks (50,000 mg) I decided to hold off on that because of starting the Juice Plus. I wanted to see if it would make a difference on it’s own with the sunshine.

I am still on a wild ride and this journey is no where near finished. I still use my essential oils daily and now I am using my Juice Plus daily. I can’t ever imagine me stopping them because they have changed my life in so many ways!

Oh Look At Me!!!

It has been a month since I have done a face update so I figured it was time. Hard to explain how happy I am with my face! My skin is truly clearing up more and more.

I know it is not really easy to see in photos but my skin is getting so much smoother! The redness is starting to really go away.

There are not enough words to say to say how thankful I am for everything that is going on with my body! I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for adding Juice Plus+ to our lives!

Not only is it changing my body and skin it is changing our lives financially. I will be forever grateful for God placing such outstanding things in our lives!

Lisa’s Story

Let me tell you all about Lisa. She is an amazing lady I have had the pleasure of getting to know thanks to our woman’s Bible study! She found us one day when it was a bad day for her. I would have said a long time ago, she found us on accident but the truth is she found us just when she needed us. God lead her to us and for that we are very thankful!

She started to have some health issues a while ago. She went to see her doctors and then her doctors started to send her to specialists. About a year ago she was finally diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

We had hoped as her church family that getting a diagnosis would help. It seemed though that her treatments and the MS were causing her more complication. She ended up having to stop working.

The second half of last year she spent more time in the hospital than out, or so it seemed. She was losing her eye sight. She was having issues walking.

The beginning of this year seemed to start much the same way that the end of last year closed. She started another symptom and the doctors were not sure what was going on. It was swelling and painful to touch. Looked to me like she had shingles on her head and face and eye (I have had shingles before and so I felt super sorry for her). She ended up having to go to the U of M to figure out what was going on because it seemed her Doctors were stumped. Turned out a good portion of the symptoms she was having were from a treatment she was on.

A little over a month ago she started taking Juice Plus capsules. She enrolled her daughter in the Children’s Health Study; which meant she had to purchase the parents portion. This was all for her daughter, not for Lisa. Her daughter deals with headaches and has other things going on so we were hoping it would help give her some relief.

Today she got the best news she could ever get! She is able to go back to work part time! Her treatment was reduced some today. Her levels are within normal range. Her typical treatment lasts for 6 hours and today it was 3 hours!

She actually reached out to me to see if I could go and pick her up because her ride was still at work. It was the best thing ever!

Lisa is working on healing her body from the inside out! She is feeling better. She has more energy. She is able to accomplish more on a daily basis. She even shared with me when I picked her up that she hasn’t had to take a nap in the afternoon!

God is so good for putting health and wellness in our lives! He has given me the ability to share with others and He is using me for His purpose!

I will be forever grateful for the means He has been using to get our family health, happy and how He has been providing for us!

Are You Eating Healthy?

For those of us who have decided to take the health road, nutrition is hard! Finding things that are portable and healthy are hard to find.

Let me be honest just for a moment. I have tried just about every diet out there. Both those you see in infomercials, in tv commercials, in the store on the shelf, on the radio, and everything else out there!

Notice one of the biggest things I said? I never did either! I said I tried just about ever diet out there! DIEt.

If you think you are going to just eat healthy, drink some shakes, eat some nutrition bars and then go back to being a gluten for food and everything unhealthy, nothing you are doing is going to get better. You may lose weight for a while but when you stop it will all come back plus some more.

Now what I was saying about having things that are portable and able to eat that are healthy and delicious? It isn’t always easy to find things! We often think if it says, “Low fat”, “Nutritional blah blah”, “Healthy”, and anything else that comes to mind, it must be good for us!

Well that is how I used to think at least…

It has taken a long time to realize the importance of knowing and researching things! Just because it says organic, or nutritional, or healthy, or dietary, or anything that leads you to believe it will do your body good just isn’t the truth.

Far to many companies are just out to make as much as they can.

My view of health and wellness has certain changed over the past few years! I may not be able to protect my family from every bad thing out there, but I can do my best to control what they are putting in them, on them and around them!

Spring Break

So excited to get a week off with these kiddos. We are looking forward to walks, parks, family time, reading, and whatever else we can fit in.

Of course I have since heard it is supposed to be awful weather but that isn’t going to stop these crazy goofballs!

I know that spring break comes at different times for everyone, but I can’t believe that we are about to head into April 2016!

See those two crazy kiddos in those photos? They are 1/2 of the reason I have invested so much into our health! I could not be more proud of the choices we have been making with Young Living and Juice Plus+! They are so much more full of life, not as tired all the time and still their ever loving goofy selves! Not to mention I have more energy and better sleep to be able to keep up with them (well most of the time).
